Smart Leather Dog Collar

By law, when a dog is in a public place, it must wear a collar. This and a tag attached to the collar – must also bear the owner’s name and address. Additionally worth knowing is that owners can be fined up to £5000 if they don’t comply.

Microchipping Is Not Enough

While many owners believe that if their dog is microchipped, it doesn’t need to have a named collar or tag,  this is incorrect. Dog ID is still required (and is also needed in addition to the tag a dog return company might provide).

So, What Type of Collar?

Whether or not dogs should wear collars around the house can be a heated topic. Like every dog carer, every pet carer thinks they are doing what’s best. For us, we like a mixture of the two. Whilst wandering around in the home we prefer Mac n Tosh to not have a dog collar & tag as we think collars can sometimes rub away their neck fur. However, once we start travelling in the motorhome it becomes essential and we generally keep their collar on at all times.

Collar

We chose a black rolled leather collar, so it blends in with their colouring and also the rolled leather is less like to rub against their fur and skin.

Tag

Tag wise, we purchased a custom brass penny sized tags with their microchip number, their name and our contact details.
