Thatched Houses

Not much to report today folks, as a big admin day. We haven’t had internet for a few weeks, so time to catch up on the admin chores, which took me most of the day. Craig on the other hand decided to kit up and sod off on the motorbike for a few hours. However, the heavens opened and he returned just after lunch like a drowned rat. Soaked from top to bottom poor thing, so out came the thermals and a hot cuppa in an attempt to warm him up.

By mid afternoon, admin complete we moved just down the road to a beautiful little village of Mogeltonder. We parked up on the village car park and sauntered down the charming old world village, which looked like a model village. The long and narrow street lined with low gabled houses, most with thatched roofs and dating back to the 1700s. At the end of the street stands a small moated castle, Schackenborg Slot, which is owned by the Queen of Denmark and home to her youngest son, Prince Joachim, who wanders the lonely castle alone. We had a walk up to the gates but for some reason he didn’t come and say hello!
At the other end of the street is the 12th-century Møgeltønder Kirke, which contains the most amazing and beautiful frescoes. The oldest dating back to 1275.

Our sleep spot tonight. Another free parking spot straight facing the Princes pad..wonder if he gives us a royal wave from his bedroom.

GPS position N054.941158 E.008.807915.

Route: Tonder to Mogeltonder

Weather: high 10 Low 3, more wet stuff than we want but hey ho, we have wellies and thermals to hand.
